Privacy Policy

How DYFN collects, uses, and protects information — including the information of children under 13, which we handle under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Last Updated

August 20, 2026. If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and, where the change is material and affects a child's information, notify the parent or guardian by email before it takes effect.

Who We Are

DYFN (Dominican Youth Futbol Network) is a community youth soccer initiative based in New Jersey. We are an independent community initiative working toward nonprofit status; see our Fiscal Sponsorship Disclaimer for details. You can reach us at hola@dfytn.org.

Children Under 13 (COPPA)

Our programs serve children, and we knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because of that, we do not allow a child to register on their own. Every player registration and every event RSVP must be completed by a parent or legal guardian, who must tick a consent box before the form can be submitted. We record the date and time of that consent and the exact wording the parent agreed to, so we can show what was consented to and when.

We collect from a child only what is reasonably necessary to run our programs: name, birth year, playing position, neighborhood, and current club or league. We do not collect heritage answers, talent or scouting information, or highlight videos, and we publish no directory of players. We never condition a child's participation on providing more information than is needed. We do not use children's information for behavioral advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not disclose it publicly.

A parent or legal guardian may at any time review the information we hold about their child, ask us to correct it, refuse to allow us to collect anything further, or ask us to delete it. Email hola@dfytn.org and we will respond within 30 days. Deleting a child's information may mean we can no longer include them in programs.

What We Collect

Player registration: the player's name, birth year, position, neighborhood, and current club or league; the parent or guardian's name, email, and phone number; an emergency contact; and any medical notes the guardian chooses to share so coaches can keep the player safe at a session.

Event RSVPs: the parent or guardian's name, the player's name, party size, phone number, email, and any notes you choose to add.

Volunteers: the name, email, and details a volunteer submits about their availability and interests. Volunteers are adults and are not covered by the COPPA section above.

Newsletter: the email address you enter in the footer signup.

Site usage: aggregate, cookieless page-view and event counts (see Analytics below). No account, no advertising profile, and no cross-site tracking.

How We Use It

To run player registration and build rosters; to organize and staff events and manage RSVPs and capacity; to contact a parent or guardian about a player's participation; to send the newsletter to people who asked for it; and to report aggregate, non-identifying totals (such as how many players registered) to funders and to our community. We do not use this information to advertise to you, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

Who We Share It With

We share personal information only with the service providers that make the site work, and only so they can provide that service to us:

Supabase — hosts our database, where registrations, RSVPs, and rosters are stored.

Vercel — hosts the website and provides our cookieless analytics.

FormSubmit — relays registration, volunteer, and newsletter notification emails to DYFN staff. Registration notifications include the player's and parent's details.

We do not currently share personal information with a fiscal sponsor. DYFN is working toward fiscal sponsorship and nonprofit status; if that changes and it would involve sharing personal information, we will update this policy and notify affected parents before any sharing begins.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or where necessary to protect the safety of a child.

How Long We Keep It

We keep a player's information for as long as the player is engaged with DYFN programs, and we delete it when a parent or guardian asks us to, or when it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for — whichever comes first. We do not set an arbitrary expiry date, because a player may return season after season; but we do not keep a child's information indefinitely once it no longer serves the purpose it was collected for.

Information from our earlier registration form. Before 2026, DYFN registered families under a talent-network model and asked for a heritage answer, whether the family was interested in Dominican Republic programming, and an optional highlight video link. We stopped asking for all three, and no new registration records them. We have kept what families already gave us, rather than deleting it silently: the heritage answer supports membership eligibility under Article II of our bylaws, and the other two are used by our staff to administer registrations families already submitted. All three are visible only to authorized staff in our internal admin tools. None of it is published, shown anywhere on this site, sold, or used to evaluate a player. If you would rather we delete any of it for your child, email hola@dfytn.org and we will.

Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Aggregate analytics contain no personal information and are retained by Vercel under their own retention schedule.

Your Rights and How to Exercise Them

You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you or your child, correct it, delete it, or stop collecting it. Email hola@dfytn.org with your request. We will respond within 30 days. For a request about a child's information, we will take reasonable steps to verify that you are that child's parent or legal guardian before we act, so that we do not disclose a child's information to the wrong person.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how the site is used — for example, how many people read the site in Spanish versus English, and which events attract the most RSVPs. It is cookieless and does not build a profile of you or follow you across other websites. The events we record contain only non-identifying values such as a language code ('en' or 'es') and an event's public URL slug. We never attach a name, email, phone number, or any detail about a child to an analytics event.

Security

Registration and RSVP data is stored in a database that is not readable by the public: anonymous access to every table holding personal information has been revoked, and only DYFN staff signed in with an authorized account can read it. Coaches can see only the players on the teams they are assigned to. Public forms are rate limited and protected against automated submissions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep access to a child's information as narrow as the job requires.
